IDE Electric is an international company in the electrical sector, dedicated to designing and manufacturing plastic and metal enclosures for low-voltage distribution and telecommunications, with a legacy of growth and innovation that has shaped our history since 1987.
1987–1997: the origins
IDE Electric was founded in Zaragoza, Aragon, in 1987 by Alfonso Montañés, the company’s founder and a key figure in its early development. His entrepreneurial legacy continues today under the leadership of the current CEOs and principal shareholders, Raquel and Beatriz Montañés.
In its early years, the company began operating with a limited product range and outsourced manufacturing, establishing itself in a highly competitive market. Thanks to a clear international outlook and its commitment to innovation, in-house design and the technological development of its production processes, it grew rapidly, expanded its product portfolio and consolidated its position in the domestic market, while taking its first steps into international markets.
1998: expansion
The rapid acceptance of its products in the domestic market led to a move to new facilities in the Malpica industrial estate, where the company brought the manufacture of plastic enclosures in-house and strengthened its production capacity.
Later, in 1998, it took another step forward in its growth by moving to the Villanueva de Gállego industrial estate, a strategic location that supported its expansion goals and enabled it to consolidate a stronger industrial structure.
2003: launch of IDE Electric GmbH
In 2003, the company reached its first major milestone in international expansion with the creation of its German subsidiary, IDE Electric GmbH. This strategic decision strengthened its presence in one of Europe’s most demanding markets.
With this new structure, IDE reinforced its position in the German market, providing a faster, closer and more direct service supported by its own sales network.
2006: automation and industrial precision
In 2006, IDE entered a new stage in its development with the opening of a production plant in Zuera and the start of in-house manufacture of its own metal cabinets.
These facilities incorporated advanced automated robotics systems designed to optimise manufacturing processes and guarantee the levels of precision, safety and quality required by an increasingly specialised market.
2012: logistics optimisation
As part of its expansion, in 2012 IDE opened an 8,500 m² logistics centre designed to optimise storage and dispatch across all of its production areas.
This infrastructure enabled the company to maximise logistics efficiency and strengthen its service capacity in both domestic and international markets.
2016–2019: production integration and portfolio expansion
Between 2016 and 2019, the company carried out a new industrial and logistics restructuring, bringing all of its production processes together at a 40,000 m² facility.
Today, this site comprises five buildings dedicated to manufacturing IDE’s extensive product portfolio — plastic enclosures, metal cabinets, plugs and sockets, and customised solutions — as well as the central goods dispatch and receiving hub, logistics warehouse and head offices.
2024–2026: expansion in Europe and Latin America
In 2024, the company took another step in its internationalisation strategy with the creation of its Mexican subsidiary, IDE Electric Latam.
The opening of a regional distribution warehouse and the addition of a local technical sales team made it possible to optimise delivery times in a strategically important market, while also strengthening the development of solutions adapted to regional regulations and requirements.
This relationship with the Latin American electrical industry was further consolidated in 2026 with the first IDE Electric Latam Distributors Convention, held at the company’s headquarters in Zuera to recognise the dedication and trust of its main Mexican partners.
That same year, IDE strengthened its presence in the United Kingdom with the creation of IDE Electric LTD, an initiative designed to provide more specialised, closer support to the British distribution network.
IDE today: direct communication with strategic markets.
Since its beginnings, IDE has maintained a firm commitment to quality, innovation and customer service. Today, these values are reflected in the breadth of its portfolio, with more than 4,500 standard references, and in a strong international presence spanning more than 90 countries.
This expansion is supported both by an established sales network and by digital channels tailored to its main strategic markets. IDE’s website currently provides specialised information in the languages of its principal areas of activity: Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Latin America and Poland.
The company also maintains dedicated corporate profiles for the UK, Polish and Latin American markets, enabling more direct, localised communication tailored to each market.
With this structure, IDE remains true to its commitment to customers, providing a comprehensive and personalised service geared to the needs of each project and the challenges of a constantly evolving global market.
